Frequently Asked Questions
The NLMC permits are located in Birrimian formations, which are favorable for gold mineralization. These formations consist of metasediments (carbonate sandstones, pelites, and arkose) and volcano-sedimentary rocks (greywacke turbidites and black shales). The area is characterized by quartz veins and veinlets, oriented NW, NE, and EW, with sub-vertical to medium dips.
The gold mineralization is hosted in quartz veins within deformed Birrimian volcano-sedimentary rocks. The mineralization is linked to structural traps such as faults, shear zones, and fold hinges. The mineralizing fluid is produced by metamorphism, and the gold precipitation is controlled by physicochemical variations in these structural traps.
The permits are located 12 km from the town of Varney, in the Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia. They are contiguous to the SAG permits, which host one of Liberia’s largest gold extraction operations.
A Social and Environmental Impact Assessment (ESIA) was conducted and approved, resulting in a Certificate of Environmental Conformity issued on May 4, 2021. The study identified environmental and social issues, engaged stakeholders, and developed terms of agreement for sustainable project implementation.
The project will create 117 direct jobs, with a focus on hiring Liberians. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) owned by Liberians will be encouraged to provide goods and services for the mining project.
